BUHARI: IT’S NEEDLESS DEPLOYING MRAP VEHICLES TO THE PEACEFUL SOUTH-EAST
Shortly after the 2015 General Elections, the United States of America under former President Barrack Obama, who hitherto denied Nigeria’s request to purchase the urgently needed military hardwares to combat the Boko Haram menace in the North-East, became favourably disposed to gift us these hardwares.
The Nigerian Army under the immediate-past administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, was accused of human rights violation, thus, why Obama’s led government refused selling the needed military hardwares to the country.
But, when a new Sheriff whom the Obama-led government was favourably disposed to came on board, alas, in January 2016, 24 Mine-Resistant, Armoured-Protected vehicles were gifted the military authorities to crush Boko-Haram.
For those who are just hearing about the MRAP vehicles for the first time, MRAP is a term for United States military vehicles produced as part of the MRAP program that are designed specifically to withstand improvised explosive device (IED) attacks and ambushes.
For emphasis, the MRAP is specifically designed to withstand IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICE, IEDs.
This is what our Darling President Muhammadu Buhari and his Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai have recently gifted the peaceful South-East, as if the region was engulfed in a Conventional or Guerilla war.
Since October 14, 2016, when the Leader of the Indegenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, was arrested by the Department of State Services, DSS, in Lagos, the calls for Referendum and Self-Determination have heightened in the South-East. This is also in addition with the Nepotic Stance of President Buhari since coming on board on May 29, 2015.
But I am forced to ask: Has there been any single gunshot fired by IPOB, MASSOB or BIM? Has there been any IED denotated by these groups? Has it not been Jaw-Jaw, peaceful rallies, all the way? So, why these deployment of MRAPs and other military artillery in the South-East to procure the inglorious second phase of Operation Python Dance (Egwu Eke 2)?
For goodness sake, these MRAPs should immediately be redeployed to Sambisa Forest, thus, the North-East where members of the Islamist fundamentalist sect, Boko Haram are still fighting, maiming and killing hapless citizens with IEDs.
Barely five days to the commencement of the inglorious ops Egwu Eke, innocent bloods had already been spilled in parts of the South-East. This recent brigandage started on September 10, 2017, even as the inglorious Egwu Eke 2 is billed to commence on September 15 and run through October 14, 2017.
It’s expedient to note that the US authorities who once denied Nigeria access to buy these military hardwares, owing to alleged human rights abuses and violations, would not be happy or keep mum, while these same military artillery are used to intimidate hapless citizens who bear no arms against the State.
For goodness sake, rights to Self-Determination is no crime. Calls for Referendum is no call for war. So, why these unnecessary militarisation of the South-East by the President Buhari-led Federal Government?
For the fact that the world has become a global village, some intelligent Nigerians are aware of and exposed to the fact that the Catalonians in Spain, like the Scots in England have over the years been calling for Referendum. The Scots had a Referendum conducted for them in 2014 and the majority voted to Stay in the United Kingdom. This happened without bloodshed, not a single gunshot was fired, not a single Scot was felled by hot metallic bullets.
The Catalonians have also called the bluff of the Spanish authorities to conduct her Referendum come October 1, 2017. This agitation has gone on for years, not with bloodshed, not a single gunshot fired, not a single Catalonian felled by hot metellic bullets.
But here in Nigeria, hell has always been let loose each time questions are raised about the skewed structure of the country. I can’t count the number of innocent lives wasted in this struggle for political and economic emancipation by groups in the South-East. I can’t count the number of gunshots fired. I can’t count the number of armless citizens wounded and paralysed by hot metallic bullets.
Is this the kind of country we call our own? Why can’t we reason like normal and sensible humans?
Well, eminent Nigerians, have risen to condemn the ongoing militarisation of the South-East, so, the adulation given to the Nigerian Army by some very microscopic e-rats online, matters not.
One wouldn’t blame these very microscopic few. The long years of military rule in Nigeria has stereotyped their brains to think that it is normal to maim and kill hapless, armless and harmless fellow citizens over genuine agitations. This is the height of Stockholm Syndrome any victim could suffer from.
These same very microscopic few have visited Western Countries to discover that the Military is barely seen on the Streets. Even, it’s rare for the Police in these countries to bear arms on the Streets (Public Places). They hail these developments over there, but they become Imbecilic, Ignorant, Callous, Clowns, Politically Correct and hail the Militarisation against hapless and armless citizens here in Nigeria. Indeed, Hypocrisy runs in their bloodstreams and lineages.
It’s not in my purview to lay curses on those who derive pleasure in taking the lives of innocent citizens. It’s also not in my purview to lay curses on those who hail perpetrators of these abominable acts.
The Holy Script in Genesis 9:6 specifically warned against taking human lives. The life is in the Blood. Humongous repercussions await those who take human lives.
Again, the Holy Script in Revelation 13:10 warns: He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword… (King James Bible).
President Buhari should at this auspicious moment, listen to wise counsels for once and immediately call-off this military invasion of the South-East. Mr. President must not heed to the evil counsels of today’s Hamans around him, in the Villa.
Revelations I have been having about the impending Bloodbath in the South-East, more recently, are shocking and enough to give well-meaning and good-spirited citizens Insomnia.
Indeed, these are perilous times that demand for Wisdom.
